Au Naturelle
White Mountains, California
"One afternoon I was enjoying the solitude of a Bristlecone Pine forest. These trees, growing above 10,000 feet in the White Mountains of California, are the oldest living things on the planet. They survive for thousands of years through drought, fire and the most extreme conditions in the lower 48 states.
I was attracted to wavy patterns burned into one of the tree trunks from wildfires earlier that year. I didn't notice the female form until I looked through the viewfinder framing this shot. I still recall my jaw dropping in amazement as I pressed the camera shutter.
Reminiscent of an impressionistic nude, this image typifies the artistic, almost flirting beauty of our natural world. We are granted unbelievable visions that last for a moment or season, then are lost forever." ~Ed Cooley
