This was taken from Reynolds Creek in Glacier National Park, Montana.

Usually when the sky is clear and hazy in the summer it is difficult to capture great images. This location is about a two-mile hike up hill. To be there at first light you have to leave about 2-1/2 hours before sunrise.

That morning forest fires were raging west of the park filling the sky with smoke. It wasn’t visible until the sun rose over the mountains. It worked to my advantage in this image, helping to separate the peaks at the horizon, adding more depth and ambiance to the image.
